Six volunteers made their way across the South Efford Marsh nature reserve on an unexpectedly bright Sunday 15th April to clear up the rubbish that blows onto the downstream beach area outside the marsh, known locally as ‘Albert’s Camp’. A collection of large logs was piled above high water mark . Otherwise, when washed into the river on high tides, these logs would be a dangerous navigational hazard. These same logs could form the basis for an excellent bonfire, BBQ or picnic at some future date for those souls prepared to make the effort to visit this isolated but interesting part of the estuary. Subsequently, the assortment of rubbish was picked up by boat, in what turned out to be an exciting and amusing race against the falling tide and deep mud, for collection by SHDC.
